David Potvin Will Join our 2020 New Year Concert

Pianist David Potvin is a performer, collaborative pianist and piano teacher based in Toronto. He was a finalist in the 2017 Stepping Stone competition. and a national finalist in the Canadian Music Competition of 2012.  Winner of the University of Toronto’s 2016 Doctor of Musical Arts recital competition, David performed in the Faculty of Music’s Thursday at noon recital series.  His Toronto solo recitals include performances at the Nine Sparrows Arts Foundation noon recital series, Toronto Public Library’s Orchardviewers Club, St. Andrew’s United Church’s Music and Life Series, and Islington United Church’s Sundays @ 3. Elsewhere he has performed at the Bathurst Chamber Music Festival, in Wolfville and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, in Lennoxville, Quebec, and at festivals in Halifax, Vermont, Southern France, Romania and London, England. Overseas appearances were supported by the Nova Scotia Talent Trust.

 

David is a student in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Toronto, researching the pianism of Ricardo Viñes in connection with Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel’s compositional styles. He holds a masters degree in piano performance from the University of Toronto, where he studied with Marietta Orlov and was awarded the Simmonds Graduate Fellowship in Memory of Sara Levi Godfrey. Masterclass performances for eminent pedagogues include Andre Laplante, James Anagnason, John Perry, and Martha Argerich.
